TRS

Today we are going to tell you about Township, Range and Section. First we are going to show you the maps that we use. The maps we use are called Topo maps. They help us find the TRS. There are different maps too… like Lemoyne, and Rattle Snake Springs. There are also different fields… as in... Randy Mittelsaedt’s fields, and also Mike Grande’s fields. Next we will tell you about the 4 yard sticks you need. If you don’t have any, just pick some up at the hardware store or something like that. These sticks help us by… keeping TRS, it keeps us organized, and keeps all the boxes straight. The WHOLE wide world is divided into TRS… it’s weird if you ask me. Townships run east and west they are 6 miles wide. Ranges run north and south and are 6 miles wide. Inside each T R intersection there are 36 small squares called sections. Each section is 1 mile sq. and has a number 1-36. each section has quarter section in it. Some of these have labels as in NW, NE, SE, and SW. After that we get to practice on our horny toad sightings. It helps us get ready for the real thing when the farmers come with all the REAL data. Next it’s time to get on to Arc View. Arc View makes it a lot easier because if we didn’t have it we’d have to write all the sightings down, and mark all the sightings down. Now you know about TRS.
